Bayou Fork Kitchen is a Black-owned, family-run Cajun and Creole restaurant led by Penny and her son, Chef Blake. From our kitchen at 10600 Fondren Road, we serve Southwest Houston the comfort food our family has spent years building, refining and sharing.
A mother-and-son restaurant story
The business began when Penny left a corporate career and teamed up with Blake to turn a corner store into Mardi Gras Memphis in 2015. Their path later included the French Quarter Food Truck and The Quarter Kitchen + Bar before family brought them to Houston. Bayou Fork Kitchen opened on Fondren Road in September 2026 as the next chapter of that work.
Penny leads the business; Blake leads the kitchen
Penny brings the operating experience that keeps a family restaurant moving. Blake brings more than a decade of professional kitchen experience, including training at Emeril's. Together, they shape a restaurant where the menu and the way guests are treated come from the same family vision.
Cajun, Creole and Southern comfort on one menu
The menu moves from Louisiana favorites such as crawfish étouffée, gumbo and a fried shrimp po-boy to Southern plates such as meatloaf, fried pork chops and red beans with sausage. Sides like dirty rice, mac and cheese, greens and candied yams make it easy to build the kind of meal that feels familiar.
